Understanding ENERGY STAR & Its Importance:

ENERGY STAR

Over 90% of United States households recognize the ENERGY STAR logo as a trusted environmental certification, according to a 2026 study done by Environmental America. The overall percentage of Americans who recognize this logo reflects the growth in sustainability trends. In 1992, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the ENERGY STAR program as a voluntary energy-efficiency certification program to define the sustainability level of products.

ENERGY STAR applies to products, buildings, and industrial systems, each tested and verified through rigorous regression analysis. This logo helps enterprises identify products and buildings meeting strict energy-efficiency standards. This certification serves as a national benchmark for energy efficiency and a foundation for sustainable procurement.

Alongside many other organizations, Ace Computers holds the ENERGY STAR certification for a wide range of high-performance systems. Our ongoing commitment to sustainability ensures that our solutions not only meet today’s standards but align with the evolving requirements for 2026 and beyond. As a trusted partner, Ace Computers delivers scalable, sustainable solutions backed by a team of experts dedicated to identifying the best fit for your performance and growth needs.

What Classifies a Product as ENERGY STAR Certified?

Forensic Hardware

ENERGY STAR is federally backed certifcation supported by rigorus, independent testing. For a product to earn the blue and white label, it must demonstrate measurable energy efficiency, meet or exceed performance expectations, and pass independent verification. By achieving an ENERGY STAR certification, efficiency enhancements will never come at the expense of usability or reliability.

Our ENERGY STAR Certification Checklist:

  • Exceed federal energy‑efficiency standards
    • Certified products typically use 10–50% less energy than the minimum requirements established by law
  • Maintains or improve performance
    • Efficiency cannot compromise performance
  • Meet continuously evolving standards
    • Ace Computers ensures that we are up to date with any EPEAT compliance necessary. In preparation for EPEAT 9.0, our sustainability team proactively collaborated with our engineering teams to update power supply units (PSUs), ensuring our systems meet the latest environmental and performance standards
  • Must undergo third-party testing and verification

The EPA’s Certification Process Includes:

  • Dataset validation
  • Creation of regression models to evaluate key performance and energy‑use drivers
  • Model testing against thousands of buildings using EPA Portfolio Manager data

Why is ENERGY STAR so Critical?

Two engineers in safety gear walk on a path near ENERGY STAR Certified wind turbines in a rural landscape under a cloudy sky.

In 2026, ENERGY STAR is no longer considered just a national benchmark, but a measurable driver for sustainability, cost savings, and pollution reduction. Certified products help reduce carbon emissions, save power, and reduce the amount of waste throughout the entire product lifecycle.

As of 2026, the following statistics have been calculated by EnvironmentAmerica and ENERGY STAR:

  • ENERGY STAR has reduced 5 trillion kWh of energy waste, enough to power all U.S homes for 3 years
  • 4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions have been prevented, equivalent to 1,055 coal plants in a year
  • $500+ billion in energy savings for consumers and businesses
  • Certified buildings use 35% less energy than typical buildings

Improving Corporate Sustainability

Companies and corporations that have earned a certification are at an advantage over companies without the star. The verifications are derived from real performance data and third-party verifications, which represent credible proof for environmental responsibilities:

  • Reduces operational energy use:
    • Products and buildings use a significantly smaller amount of energy, decreasing carbon footprint and utility costs
  • Third-party testing for long-term efficiency:
    • Every certified product must go through independent testing to verify meeting the EPA’s criteria
  • Eliminating the “Phantom Load.”
    • A common misconception is that when you turn off the power of your computer, it will stop draining power, but that is not always the case. Certified devices minimize standby power consumption, reducing waste.
      • Computers that enter low‑power sleep states
      • Power supplies designed to cut standby wattage
  • Alignment with green-building frameworks
    • Green-building programs like LEED (Leadership in Energy and Design) and Green Globes are reliant on standardized energy‑performance data
    • “It can’t be green if it’s not blue”

Understanding Federal Compliance in 2026:

For federal agencies, procuring ENERGY STAR products is required by law. Under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, federal agencies are required to purchase ENERGY STAR-qualified and EPEAT-registered products whenever available. ENERGY STAR supports broader frameworks, such as Executive Order 13423 and government-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction.

For agencies requiring a benchmark, the product’s ENERGY STAR rating will provide the necessary specs using CBECS data and EPA regression modeling. Sustainability is not optional for federal buyers; it’s a foundation for guidance.
